GAS
Gas Development and the Decade of Gas Initiative.
At AMOCON, we are proud to be pioneers in the development of non-associated gas fields, even though our block is primarily known for its promising oil reserves. This endeavour has presented unique challenges, including low-price scenarios and limited infrastructure in a stranded environment.
The Nigerian Federal Government launched the Decade of Gas (2020-2030) initiative to reduce gas flaring, stimulate investment in gas and gas-based industries, and promote gas utilization in the automotive sector. Nigeria is rich in both associated and non-associated gas reserves, with an estimated 210 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of Gas, ranking 9th globally in proven gas reserves.
However, despite these vast reserves, Nigeria’s gas production, at 3.7 BCFPD, ranks only 22nd worldwide, trailing behind its African peers.
AMOCON successfully commissioned a 20 MMSCFD state-of-the-art gas processing plant in April 2023 after signing a Gas Sales and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with Accugas Limited in March 2023.
Despite these challenges, AMOCON remains committed to innovation. We continuously seek alternative technologies and opportunities, leading to our strategic approach for the Asu River Field. In 2019, we initiated the conceptual design of a gas processing plant aimed at utilising gas reserves that many companies traditionally flare. Construction was completed in December 2022, followed by a pre-startup safety audit conducted by regulatory agencies. Final commissioning approval was granted in February 2023.AMOCON constructed a multi-phase pipeline, connecting the flow station to the gas processing facility. The Gas is then transported via pipeline to the ACCUGAS network.
